How adoption works

Four steps, and a friend for life.

1

Meet the birds

Browse who is looking for a home. Tap any photo to read their story, their personality and what kind of home they need.

2

Apply online

Tap "Apply to adopt." The application takes a few minutes and goes straight to Amanda, with the bird's name on it.

3

We talk it through

Amanda reads every application and reaches out to talk about the bird, your home and your routine. Matches are made carefully.

4

Welcome home

When it is a fit, your new companion comes home, and we are a text away for as long as you have them.

Questions

Adopting from us.

How do I adopt a bird?

Tap the bird's photo to read about them, then tap "Apply to adopt." Amanda reads every application and will reach out to talk it through. Start an application.

What if the bird I want is pending?

You can still apply and join the waitlist. If the first application does not work out, the waitlist is next.

I do not see the right bird yet. Can I still apply?

Yes. Choose "Not sure yet" on the application and tell us what you are looking for. And join the newsletter to hear about new birds first.

Can I visit the birds?

By appointment only. Mid Atlantic Bird Rescue is a home-based rescue, and some of the birds in our care cannot be seen by the public. Text or call 302-864-5543 to set a time, and please never stop by unannounced.

I need to rehome my bird. Can you help?
